For every beautiful fish and turtle, there was an equal amount of plastic bags, food packaging, and Styrofoam floating among them. I visited the island of Nusa Penida to snorkel at the incredible reefs, and was shocked at the amount of plastic waste in the water. I know this incredible campus will shape the lives of many Sydney students, maybe my future kids will go to school here one day!īuilt. One of the reasons I was drawn to working in construction was to be able to make an impact on my community and create something positive for future generations to enjoy. What was once an underused carpark will become a bustling cultural and educational hub. The new Bankstown City Campus of Western Sydney University contributes to the regeneration and activation of Bankstown CBD, creating an iconic landmark for Bankstown and enhanced public domain. From tender design, to construction, to (almost) complete!įilomena Beshara and I worked alongside Walker Corporation and Western Sydney University on the Green Star submission for this building, which features sustainable materials like InfraBuild steel, Boral Concrete Products concrete with recycled fly ash content, energy regenerating Schindler Lifts Australia Pty Limited, and non toxic interior finishes.
